Run On update - 11/98

Well, we see now that we have been more misunderstood while hibernating than while we were out there being a "rock band", so here's our tale, a sort of "What's Up Run On."

On the collective front, Run On is going back to its roots, which is to say Sue and myself making tapes and struggling to master some riff or rhythm created 10 cassettes ago (or fabricated last night on my Atari). Lots of music is coming but were happy to take our time to make sure it is just the way we want it... We have decided not to use the Run On name and although we don't by any means rule out the possibility of Alan or Katie or somebody else playing on the eventual recordings, at the moment we are working as a duo towards putting a record out next year on Thrill Jockey. Honestly we don't know which way(s) things will go and we kind of like that!

Alan's got a record with Loren MazzaCane Connors coming out soon on Drag City, they recorded late winter in Chicago with Jim O'Rourke producing. With Rick Rizzo, Kevin Drumm, Ken Vandermark and other Chicagoland notables, this seems like it might be Alan's "B.B. King in London" album. His cool installation project, "Today I Am A Fountain Pen", has been on every Saturday in October at a gallery here in NYC. Alan just got a new email address so he's now spam-able at: alicht@bellatlantic.net

Katie's doing her academic thingy (I hope she'll accept this college dropout's ignorance of the lingo) finishing her dissertation and so on as well as playing gigs and recording with Special Pillow. Her email address is: robwv@panix.com

Sue's pretty much slowed down on the massive amount of performing she's done supporting her solo album "To Run More Smoothly". This included tours with Freakwater, Mark Eitzel, The Spinanes and Tortoise. Wedding band/Supergroup Six Layer Cake (with Sue on backing vocals and tambourine) have had a busy Autumn as well, with 2 or 3 weddings and a gig at Windows On The World!

Rift Records recently released a record (our 3rd) by my group Les Batteries (recorded a while ago in Chicago with John McEntire) and my partner Guigou Chenevier and I toured the East Coast and Midwest along with Sue for a couple of weeks. Alan and I had the pleasure of playing one show in the company of Mark Cunningham (Mars/Raeo) and Bob Bert (Pussy Galore/Chrome Cranks) and then we did some ADAT recording which may eventually find a way to your ears. I've also been helping out Antietam on a top secret project involving my...(no I should stop there!) Well keep you posted on our progress (hopefully this avenue of communication will remain open)... Questions?
